After receiving a scholarship, he attended Stanford University and graduated in 1984 with a BA in theater. He later enrolled in the renowned Julliard School’s Drama Division, where he eventually earned his degree in 1988.

Other movies in which the actor has appeared include Primal Fear, in which he starred opposite Richard Gere; Salt; City of Angels; and Salt, in which he co-starred with Angelina Jolie.
But many will remember him best for his role as Captain Ray Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which saw Braugher co-star with Andy Samberg, Stephanie Beatriz, Joe Lo Truglio, and Melissa Fumero, playing New York police officers in Brooklyn’s fictional 99th Precinct.
David Simon, whose non-fiction book Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets inspired the show Homicide: Life on the Street, said Braugher’s death was “too damn soon.”

Actor Marc Evan Jackson, who portrayed Braugher’s spouse in the television series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, posted a photo of the two holding hands on the set while donning their wedding bands.
